In 2017 we wanted to bring the focus back down to what really keeps STOA moving in the right direction, and that is our staff. Today's STOA Spotlight is on Michael Moore, Senior Designer.
Q: How long have you been at STOA?
I joined the STOA family in February of 2015.
Q: Before working at STOA, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
There are many to choose from, but I would have to say the most interesting was with Spooner Petroleum Companies. Working with petroleum engineers and geologists was very interesting and a great learning experience. The geologist I worked for was very well seasoned and had a story for everything.
Q: What is your favorite part about working for STOA?
The work environment and the people. I have worked in multiple architecture firms and offices in other industries. None compare to the family we have at STOA. And who else has palm trees in their office?
Q: What did you want to be when growing up?
Starting at a very early age, parental influence steered me to a few key interests that I carry with me to this day. Building things, being on the water, and helping others. Growing up, I was sure I would be a United States Coast Guard.
Q: What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Though it is a very small stepping stone for me in the grand scheme of things, I am pretty proud of my Bachelor’s of Architecture from Mississippi State University. HAIL STATE!
Q: What are three career lessons you’ve learned thus far?
1. Communication is key.
2. Take pride in your work.
3. Do not be afraid to learn something new.
Q: You're happiest when:
Megan and I both have the same day/night off and get to spend time with Henley and Gatsby (our furry four leggers) lounging at the house, hanging out on the beach or wherever else we please.
Q: People would be surprised if they knew:
I have visited more states than years I have been alive. From the East Coast to the West Coast all the way up to Alaska and down to the Southernmost Point, but I have never left the country.
Q: What is your favorite quote?
My Great Grandmother always said, “Don’t be too short to judge someone until you have walked a day in their shoes.”
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
Megan and I are major foodies, and we jump at the opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal and beverage together. Some of my other many hobbies that I don’t have enough time for are woodworking, fishing, sailing, biking, kayaking and beach naps.
Q: Which way does the toilet paper hang on the wall - over or under?
Over, and you’re doing it wrong if it is any other way!
Q: What do you like on your pizza?
Everything! The only way to ruin a good pizza is to put pineapple on it. C’mon, fruit on a pizza??
