STOA Spotlight: Guillermo Burga Solano
In 2017 we wanted to bring the focus back down to what really keeps STOA moving in the right direction, and that is our staff. Today's STOA Spotlight is on Guillermo Burga Solano, Project Architect.
Q: How long have you been at STOA?
Since September of 2016.
Q: Before working at STOA, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Working at the Doha Airport was by far the most epic assignment. There were 44,000 laborers at the peak of construction just prior to the main terminal opening. Staggering scale and cost. The VIP lounges are absurd. Please check it out.
After Doha I visited family in Lima, Peru and unexpectedly stayed for three years. During that time I found work with the Contractor at the Lima Seaport Expansion. Aside from the perk of seeing the docks and the entire port modernized, I worked on resolving claims and learned a fair bit about covering your you know what.

Q: What is your favorite part about working for STOA?
There’s a very positive collaborative feel in the office. You can see it whenever any two persons are speaking. It is clear it is something important to the STOA culture and I'm all for it because it draws a better effort from everyone.

Q: What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Nothing worth mention yet, but I look forward to my daughter going to Princeton.
Q: What did you want to be when growing up?
Architect. Since I was very young, like 5 years old. I think my mom brainwashed me very early and it worked. Surprise, I actually went through with it! By the time I found out all the details, I was in too deep and it was too late.
Q: What are three career lessons you’ve learned thus far?
1) Listen to everyone, and look at things carefully.
2) No one remembers how fast you complete a project but everyone remembers if you complete it poorly.
3) You will never ever ever ever finish with your CEUs.
Q: People would be surprised if they knew:
If you're gonna know one thing about me: NO CUCUMBERS.
Q: What do you think is the most important quality you need to have for success?
I'm just glad I work doing something I enjoy. I’m not sure success is the precise word for it but consistency and a good attitude have helped me along the way more than anything else.

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
Lyanna, our daughter, is 10 months old so every spare moment is spent with her these days. When she does take a nap mom and dad usually have enough time for 2 beers and a little Netflix.
Q: What was your favorite TV show growing up?
Cosby Show Forever. Simpsons.
Q: What do you want written on your tombstone?
"Not dead yet, false alarm"
Q: What is your favorite summer activity?
We are definitely beach people and are very excited about the weather and the white sands on Pensacola Beach. This summer, we want to check out other beaches nearby and make some fun memories with Lyanna and Siete on the sand.
