STOA Spotlight: Jackie Hoffman
In 2017 we wanted to bring the focus back down to what really keeps STOA moving in the right direction, and that is our staff. Today's STOA Spotlight is on Jacqueline (Jackie) Hoffman, Project Coordinator & LEED Administrator.
Q: How long have you been at STOA?
8 years in April.
Q: Before working at STOA, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I started working at the Sizzler Steak House in high school when I was 16 as the “salad bar girl”. From there, I was promoted to cashier, then to server, to back of house food prep, which leads me to my most unusual job, meat cutter. I loved it!
Q: What is the favorite part about working for STOA?
I enjoy the camaraderie and team effort, but I really value producing a clean and organized set of documents.
Q: What do you consider your greatest achievement?

My son Michael, nothing will ever compare!
Q: What are three career lessons you’ve learned thus far?
1. You are not as good as you think you are, don’t overrate yourself. Always strive to do better.
2. Feel good about what you do and how well you perform; go home every day with a sense of accomplishment.
3. Ask or learn if you don’t know; it’s okay to say “I need to get back to you”. Don’t make assumptions.

Q: What did you want to be when growing up?
A veterinarian.
Q: People would be surprised if they knew:
I have a bachelor’s degree in math.
Q: What is your motto or personal mantra?
What goes around comes around, karma.
Q: What’s your favorite funny story about yourself?

The opossum in the bathtub story. Because I have really poor eyesight, I spent a good deal of time getting ready one morning before I noticed (after finally putting my glasses on) the opossum watching me from the bathtub. I have a pet door that I’m guessing he used to get inside the house in the middle of the night without a single one of my many pets noticing.
Q: You’re happiest when: Michael is happy, and when I just finished a Jazzercise class!
Q: What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?
I love to watch Jeopardy and play chess.
