Student Barracks Facility
Luis F. Pinto Army Base, Melgar, Colombia

The 746 square meter, two-story Barracks Facility was designed to house 48 students with 2 persons per room. Each 27.5 square meter room provides a desk, bed, storage and shelving casework for each resident. Additionally, each room has areas for a television, refrigerator, and through wall A/C unit, and a bathroom with shower. Each room is provided with a centrally located telephone outlet and a network outlet at each desk.

The Barracks Building utilizes large 1.5 meter overhangs to provide protection from the elements at the exterior walkways, and to reduce heat gain in the rooms. The remote location of the facility required the architectural design be an efficient, functional approach with durable low maintenance materials. Exterior building finishes match existing facilities on the installation.

STOA Architects has provided programming, design and construction documents for multiple facilities at Luis F. Pinto Army Base in Melgar, Colombia. Projects have also included a Classroom/Library Building, a Briefing/Training Building, and an Air Traffic Control Tower. These projects required multiple on-site visits to verify existing conditions and to review the program and design documents with the user. Construction documents were completed in metric units and utilized building materials/systems consistent with local construction standards and architectural style.
