823rd Red Horse Squadron Vehicle Maintenance Facility
Hurlburt Field, Florida
In conjunction with Hurlburt Field's Base Comprehensive Plan and the Red Horse Sub-Area Development Plan, the 823rd Red Horse Squadron's vehicle maintenance facility is to be replaced with a new, modern facility. STOA Architects was tasked with providing a Customer Concept Document to identify the planning, programming, design and cost of this new construction.
Vehicle maintenance provides the critical task of keeping the squadron's multiple vehicle types in a "ready" condition during war and peacetime. The new 32,346 square-foot Vehicle Maintenance Facility provides the necessary facilities required to maintain the special-purpose and heavy-construction vehicles which are vital to the Red Horse mission. The facility is programmed to have 10 drive-thru maintenance bays capable of servicing two vehicles at once. The configuration of the bays allows for servicing up to an 80-foot vehicle and includes provisions for tracked vehicles. The maintenance bays are provided with two overhead bridge cranes, two hydraulic vehicle lifts, power, air and vehicle exhaust systems. Support facilities include workshops, storage rooms, administration offices, POL storage, training rooms, and tool storage. Personnel support facilities include a laundry, break rooms, latrines and showers. Office and staff support areas are softened in both material and scale to complement the change of activities and purpose.
