1st Air Force Air Operations Center
Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida

An adequately sized and configured Air Operations Center (AOC) was necessary to meet the newly established civil support requirements resulting from the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center. The new AOC facility will afford the 1st AF with critical Command and Control, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C2ISR) capabilities to provide sufficient aerospace warning, control and service support to civil authorities. This facility will be the central hub for the processing and dissemination of critical real time reconnaissance and intelligence data that is transmitted to the war-fighting commander. The AOC will be configured to enable the Air Operations Group to provide several support functions, including: planning and execution of Homeland Defense, Anti-terrorism and Force Protection; 1st AF support to North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) as the NORAD CONUS region; 1st AF support to the U.S. Joint Forces Command (JFCOM) as the air component for Joint Task Force-Civil Support; and AOC integration with adjacent war-fighting AOC's, crisis action teams and specialized cells.

This project is the first phase of a two-phase development to house the 1st AF Staff/Air Force Forces (AFFOR) and the Air Operations Center staff and Air Operations Group (AOC/AOG). Phase 1 constructs space to accommodate the operations floor of the AOC to include the Battle Command Center and renovates two existing facilities to house the remainder of the Air Operations Group functions.

With a modern facility, the 1st AF is capable of providing the operational support to its assigned NORAD and JFCOM Commanders in Chief, and commanders in the field executing Homeland Defense and Civil Support missions will be fully supported.
