STOA Donates in Multiple Ways
March, 2008
After hearing Sarah Norman’s story on her drive into work, STOA Operations Manager, Ann Hawkins wanted to encourage her fellow STOA staffers to join her in helping. Sarah Norman is an 11th-grader at Pace High School, who was recently diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, a form of blood cancer. Sarah’s mother is a faculty member at Pace High and has had to take an unpaid leave of absence to be with Sarah throughout her first cycle of chemotherapy and blood transfusion treatments.
Following the lead of the faculty of Pace High School, STOA employees recently made blood donations in Sarah’s name. The Northwest Florida Blood Center sent their blood-mobile to STOA’s offices on March 25th. STOA’s downtown neighbors, Schmidt Dell Associates and UWF’s West Florida Historic Preservation also joined to make donations. As architects for multiple Santa Rosa County Schools, including Pace High School, STOA Architects is proud to support one of their students.
In the U.S., someone needs a blood transfusion every two to three seconds, and 95% of all Americans will need a blood transfusion at some point in their lives. For more information about donating in the Northwest Florida area, please visit www.nfbcblood.org or call 1-850-473-3853.
STOA also collected monetary donations to assist in the Norman family’s health care costs. Employees made donations and STOA Architects as a company matched the gift.
