STOA Architects teamed with Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback and Associates of Atlanta, for the master planning and design of Gulf Power Company's Corporate Headquarters building in Pensacola , Florida . The program called for an office facility supporting 500 employees with the opportunity to expand to 700 employees. Goals for the project included designing a facility exemplifying energy conservation techniques in a multi-story administrative building and designing a facility compatible with the neighboring historic district.

The new 250,000 square-foot, five-story facility was designed following the natural contours of the 15 acre triangular shaped site, which is bordered by Bayfront Parkway to the south and overlooks Pensacola Bay . The latest advances available were used in energy conservation, communications design, and site stormwater retention. A major project challenge was to design a facility of this size which neither overpowered its neighbors nor dominated its waterfront site.
