The Design/Build Team of Carothers Construction, Inc., and STOA Architects has been awarded the Special Operations Command South (SOCSOUTH) Headquarters Facility at Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida. This high profile command facility is being administered through the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District. Carothers Construction of Oxford, MS and STOA Architects from Pensacola, Florida, have a long and successful history of teaming together and are highly experienced and respected throughout the design and construction industries.
STOA Architects has been providing architectural design services to the US Government and local clients for over 30 years. A majority of STOA's work is within the Department of Defense arena and includes diverse project types such as command headquarters, vehicle maintenance facilities, child development centers, and training facilities.
SOCSOUTH is a joint headquarters that commands, controls, and executes over 75 deployments per year with an average of 20 missions in 12 countries at any time. The command is composed of three permanently assigned operational units based in several locations within the southeastern United States. Typical SOCSOUTH Headquarters deployments include a rapid response for contingencies, exercises, and other missions as directed by Commander, U.S. Southern Command.
The new design/build contract has an 850 day duration with a contract amount of $34,507,600. The 123,000 square foot, three-story facility located on 39 acres adjacent to Homestead Air Reserve Base will encompass a Command and Control facility with multiple Secure Compartmentalized Information Facilities (SCIFs) and sensitive items storage, general purpose administrative areas, emergency power generation and parking accommodations for 380 vehicles. The building structure and envelope will be designed and built to provide CAT-5 Atlantic Basin Hurricane protection for uninterrupted mission critical operations.
The new, green facility will be designed and constructed to achieve LEED Silver certification. STOA Architects is an official member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) with 9 LEED AP registered staff members experienced in providing sustainable facilities to the military.
